Norton Priory, Runcorn

  • Tudor Road Runcorn, England, WA7 1SX United Kingdom (map)

Norton Priory Museum & Gardens, located on the outskirts of Runcorn, is a hidden gem of Cheshire. Its origins date back to 1134 when it was a medieval church, boasting a stunning 12th-century vaulted ceiling and priory ruins that showcase the layout of the medieval buildings.

But beyond the facade of the monastic buildings and the medieval artifacts lies a darker, more spiritual aspect. During excavations, 49 stone coffins were unearthed, along with 130 skeletons, mostly of males aged between 36 and 45. The causes of death were varied, including leprosy, tuberculosis, and rickets. However, some of those found had mysterious injuries that led to their untimely demise. Are these the spirits that visitors claim to see wandering among the stone coffins, lost in their state of solitude and silence?

If you're brave enough to venture into the shadows of Norton Priory, join us for an unforgettable experience. Explore the history and mystery of this ancient site, and perhaps catch a glimpse of the spirits that still linger there.
