This imposing stone structure was designed by Percy Thomas and is in stone with flat roofs. The magistrates’ court faces Manchester Road and is in a single storey with a central porch rising to a higher level leading the feeling of anticipation as the nerves jangle
The entrance has a giant arch with voussoirs and contains a recessed doorway. The court is attached to the police station, which faces Spring Gardens, and has two storeys.
According to a tablet inside the courthouse, the buildings were officially opened on May 9th 1935 serving the town of Accrington with a police force for many years, before closing in the 2000's due to budgets and lack of use.
On entering the feeling of the place gives shivers right down the spine of any seasoned ghost hunter, sets the imagination racing the emotions still inside these walls are overwhelming the anger, fear and worry all still ripe in the air. The phrase if the walls could talk is something that is prevalent here.
